Abstracts

A1Strengthening Digital Competencies in Healthcare
Digitalisation is fundamentally transforming the healthcare sector and presenting healthcare professionals with new challenges. The Digital Health Report (Angerer & Berger, 2024) has highlighted that training and continuing education in digital competencies are key elements for driving digital transformation.
This workshop explores theoretical approaches and tools for assessing, sustainably developing, and teaching digital competencies. The focus is on interdisciplinary and integrative methods and models. Through practical examples, participants will be inspired to implement suitable strategies in their own professional or educational contexts and to engage in interprofessional exchange.

A2Implementing Digital Health Solutions in Hospitals
A playbook for effective implementations of digital health solutions in hospitals is presented which was developed in case studies of the DIZH project “Digital Health Zurich”. During the workshop the practical usability of the workbook and related checklists are critically discussed with the participants.

A3Responsible AI: Trust is Earned, Not Given - Assessing Trustworthiness of Health-Oriented Systems
AI technologies have great potential to improve health-oriented applications, including the use of computer vision algorithms to support diagnosis or the use of chatbots for mental health support. At the same time, they raise concerns in patients, health experts and caregivers. This calls for a rigorous assessment of ethical and societal impact and involved risks. This interactive workshop will present frameworks for assessing trustworthiness and risks of using AI in health applications. These frameworks build up on the state-of-the-art in the field, technical standards, and the EU AI regulation. During the workshop, participants will discuss and apply these methods on real-world based use cases, thus acquiring practical tools for assessing trustworthiness of health-oriented AI systems

A4Be Part of the Future: Robotics in Service of Health
In the “Smart Robotics in Digital Health” workshop, you’re not just a participant – you’re a co-creator. Explore real robotic systems, work with experts to identify promising applications, and reflect on social acceptance and barriers. Your insights will directly inform new research directions at ZHAW. Take this opportunity to help shape the development of smart, human-centred healthcare technologies.

A5Smart Hospital: Shaping the Future from a Human Perspective
What does a smart hospital look like when the needs of patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals are at the center? How can we succeed in valuing diverse perspectives and shaping a human-centered future together? In this interactive workshop, you will dive into scenarios of a “Smart Hospital 2035,” take on different roles, and actively co-create experiences. With practical insights, creative methods, and glimpses into patient journeys, you will collaboratively develop concrete ideas for the vision and implementation of a smart hospital. The focus is not only on technological innovation, but on people – as the starting point for empathetic and participatory organizations of tomorrow.

A6From Insight to Impact: Co-Creation with Patients in Digital Health Innovation
Successful digital health solutions don’t just meet clinical or technical requirements – they reflect the lived experiences, needs, and expectations of patients and end users. This interactive workshop explores how to apply co-creation and human-centered design methods to make patients active contributors in shaping digital health innovation. Participants will be introduced to practical and co-design frameworks, and will work through a mini design sprint to develop or refine an idea with real-world relevance. We’ll also explore how to involve patients and caregivers in iterative feedback loops, ensuring that solutions remain meaningful, usable, and scalable across care settings. Whether you’re part of a startup, a hospital innovation team, a research lab, or a public sector organization, this session will help you connect innovation efforts with what truly matters to patients.
